Has anyone else had a nightmare Heart Infusion test?

by Josie222, Apr 01, 2008 07:59PM
I had a similar reaction to this test. {Heart infusion stress test}.  In the middle of the test,  I almost passed out, just would have dropped my head over & fell out of the chair.  The person administering the test was talking 'girl chat' through the intence minutes & I was attempting to talk with her.  But, it just took the breath out of me, along with a tremendous weight in my chest while this medicine became my bloodflow.  And, by the way, while talking with her & feeling like i literally could not take this one second longer -asked her a question.  I said " I'll bet alot of people pass out from this.  She told me, "oh,  I wouldn't imagine, that lots of different thnigs had happened, - one lady passed out, had to be taken to the emergency room,  hesitantly said, one guy had a heart attack, but back-tracked & said she didn;t know what happened to him, but that's what it looked like.  Said people had fallen out of the chair, or lost concience-ness.  I personally felt so overcome with the effects,  that I literally didn;t know if I could make it through the night when I was home.  Afterward . I would no longer allow myself to have shots of excitement , adrenaline made me uncomfortable.  Because the affects of the medicine cause you to be forced to have out of control adrenal & cause panic.  It causes you to go further into adrenaline than you normally would.  Something you would normally control for fear you'd have a heart attach.  But here you can't stop what's happening.  To me it's similar to some kind of drug federal agents would use to make someone talk.  Because it's unbearable & if you didn't want to go through such a thing again * again, you'd give them the info they wanted.  I'd not be surprised if they actually did use some variety of this.  That's a bold statement I understand , but when something feels torturous,it doesn't have to have a good reason..  And, I wasn't trying to blame my doctor through the test.. I like my doctor,  but sometimes our good doctor my say this may be uncomfortable & they turn out to be unbearably uncomfortable or they say this may be painful & turn out to be excrusiatingly painful.  I've had the later post- op from back surgery .
I understand that the purpose for admnistering the drug is one of great importance & necessary for those of us who have trouble getting around.  It's  also the reason, I'll bet most of use go through with it even when we're in agony during the process.  afraid we have to.  Because we feel this is the way to find out.
Patients should be informed, not left in the dark.  Not made to feel like their experience was odd or not the nightmare they know it to be.  life changing results to ones life can be a very valid anxiety.  did I mention that I have come close to dieing on numerous occassions.  The cause,  my heart beats so fast  & then I loose air.  My doctor says I may have asthsma,  but I breath o.k , just don;t have the influx of air I used to.  as I mentioned about what happened in the test.  The test sucked the air out of me , & also made my heart feel like it would beat out of my chest & it took a day or two, to get my breathing back to normal, at least close to normal.
I hope this helps people to know they're not alone & understand the risks may not outway receiving the diagnosis.  There are other ways of getting the answers, ask for alternatives tests that can be done to find out what's wrong with your ticker.
