Heart Disease

I was diagnosed with hypertension about 9 months ago and was put on blood pressure medicine. My bp was around 200/120. I have had a pain in my left shoulder/shoulder blade, left arm aches, and fingers tingle once in a while. No jaw pain. I do get a sharp pain in my chest that comes and goes. The last couple of weeks I have been waking up in a cold sweat, a puddle of sweat. I am soaked. Once in a while when I bend over and stand back up I get lightheaded and dizzy. My energy level is low, tired a lot. Could I possibly have a clogged artery?

What kind of blood pressure medication are you taking? I was on Toprol XL (Metoprolol Succinate) and experienced severe nightly sweats. My pyjamas where ringing wet. Sometimes I had to get up and take a cold shower, felt really uncomfortable.

kenkeith has given you some really good advice--other than chest pain, the pain down the arm could be cardio. Or you could be fortunate enough to have a misalignment of your spine or an overlapping rib-----But check the heart first;;;;

Almost always high blood pressure has no symptoms.  The symptoms you are experiencing can be cardiovascular related, and you should consult with your doctor to rule out any serious medical condition that can be successfully treated.  Sometimes waitng too long can prevent complete recovery with therapy.

Thanks for sharing and if you have any furthe questions or comments you are invited to respond. Take care,

Ken

You cannot rule out clogged arteries without angiography, but at least you should ask for a stress test or stress echo test, as those tests may indicate coronary artery disease.

You may have too low blood pressure, and it's important that you check the blood pressure now, preferably with a 24 hour monitoring. I suspect that your doctor initiated massive medication to control your serious hypertension of 200/120. It may be that this wasn't your real blood pressure, maybe you were stressed at the doctors office.

I can have high BP numbers at the doctors office while in fact I have low BP, below 100/50 in the morning and below 80 systolic at night. If a paranoid doctor initiated treatment at my BP values, I would probably get serious problems. I'm happy my doctor used common sense.
