Heart Meds = Impotence?

Heart Meds = Impotence?

I am a 49 y/o male who experienced my first heart attack on 9/19/98..on 9/20 I underwent Angioplasty and d/c'd on 9/23 with the following meds:
Atenolol 25mg, Nifedipine 10mg, Plavix 75mg, Pravachol 20mg and Pepcid 20mg. I am 5'6"/160# and had never been on prescription meds or had any medical problems prior to this. I find that I am now unable to obtain an erection and am wondering if a medication change/adjustment will remedy this? Thank you!

Dear John,
Thank you for your question. Impotence is a potential side effect of Atenolol.   You are on a fairly low dose so this may or may not be the cause.  Discuss your concerns with your doctor and see what he recommends.  Do not stop any medications on your own as this could be harmful to you.
