Heart Murmur.. P wave? Chest pain?

I went to a internal med. doc. 2 years ago, she said she noticed a heart murmur,,, Now I go to a D.O. who does not recognize the "Heart Murmur".
I have had chest pain radiating from my left chest to down my arm, and I have shortness of breath with exertion.,, Usually the pain and SOB is with exertion,, I told my D.O. this and he did an EKG,, Noted a "Deviation in the P Wave" nothing else.. Is anyting wrong, and can a heart murmur go away?

Dear Marcy,
Although it is possible for heart murmurs to go away and it is even possible to have a slightly abnormal ecg with no consequence, your
symptoms are concerning and need to be considered along with an echocardiogram in conjunction with your full history (age, cardiac risk factors, etc.)
and physical exam.  Honestly, an echo(ultrasound of the heart done with a microphone like probe placed on your chest wall)
is not a bad idea to evaluate shortness of breath because it looks at all the valves, all the chambers of the heart, and the arteries to the lungs and from
the heart.  In other words it can pick up abnormalities not detected on history taking and physical exam.
Possibilities for a female who has new shortness of breath with exertion and history of a heart murmur are
patent ASD (opening between the upper chambers of the heart that never closed at birth, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiomyopathy (weakness of the heart muscle).
Shortness of breath is by no means normal, and it often needs thorough evaluation, and if the common things like lung disease from smoking, deconditioning, and even hyperthyroidism are
ruled out, then it is time to look at the heart with an echocardiogram. Have you had a chest X-ray. As you can see I am greatly speculating as I know very little information. I just want you
to know the possible causes of your symptoms do range from anxiety to heart disease.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to write again, and if you are interested in an evaluation
at the Cleveland Clinic then simply call 1-800-CCF-CARE and ask for an appointment with cardiology at desk F15 ( Dr.Ghaffari, Dr.Underwood, and Dr.Asher are just a few of the cardiologist you might ask for.)
Good Luck.
