Heart Rate after surgery

hello I am a 38ry old female who went in to have a simple gallbladder removal, when upon awake every one was buzzing around me, my heart rate was up to 150 and my oxygen level was 81 so they had me hooked up to oxygen,, needless to say that after 4 hrs of the heart rate not going down they finally had to call the heart docter to give me a shot to bring it down which it did, in the mean time i had several EKG'S and they checked my cardica emzemys for a possible heart attack, all test came back great.!! they however did decide to keep me over nite in observation I am now home an just sore from the surgery.. My questions is what happened????? I am healthy, I do smoke I dont drink I have been put to sleep before with no reaction like this but now i am scared of what will happen because no one can give me a true answer on what it was.. please if you can help it would be great!!

I had the same thing after 5 stents were fitted. My Cardiologist said that this is not as uncommon as I think with any kind of surgery, especially abdominal. He said that the body just sometimes goes into a kind of mild shock mode and the heart over reacts to get the repairs done. In nearly all cases, once normal rate has been established, the problem never presents itself again.
In 2009 my rate reached 220 and I passed out, but felt fine 6 hours later when I woke up. I've never had a rhythm problem since. It was a great test run for the stents :)

Bubbaben is right, you should get to your family doctor about this. It could have been an arrhythmia or a ton of other things. There is absolutely no way to know from just reading your post. The doctor can of course talk to the the hospital and find out what they saw and also order tests if needed.

Get to the doc.

In 1980 when I was 30 I had a rib taken out due to thoracic outlet syndrome..  After the surgery my heart rate went up to between 145 and 150 for 48 hours...They kept me in ICU the whole time untill my heart rate came down and told me it was just trauma to my system...  I have had other surgeries and it never happened again......If you are not content with the answer I would follow up with a heart doctor to check you out....Doctors are so busy now that we as patients have to become a proactive society for our own health....
