Heart by-pass / inflammation 3-1/2 months later

My husband had a by-pass on 10.6.08 and 2 stents put in on 10.8.08.  Is it possible for him to have inflammation 3-1/2 after having had this surgery.  He has had pain in his neck/shoulders and also chest pain.  Cardiologist seems to think it could be musco-skeletal as he has been working out in the guy (went back to pench pressing 90# last Sunday) and the pain started on Tuesday.  He also thinks that he could be having some inflammation going on which is common after surgery. Would this inflammation happen 3+ months after surgery?

Yes it could occur even up to 6 months after open heart surgery.  Typically, it is self limiting, but occasionally, medications such as nsaids, steroids or even colchinie may be used to help with the symptoms and toward faster recovery.

Hi sigs!  Absolutely he can have inflammation.  There is a blood test where they test the level of something to see how bad inflammation is. Sorry I don't know the name but your Dr would know.  I had open heart surgery  and still several weeks after I couldn't breathe  and had severe pain, Drs dismissed it and 3 weeks post surgery I was admitted with fluid surrounding my heart.  This is pretty serious so keep an eye on it.
Good luck!
