Heart question

I plan to mention this to my doc the next time I go but thought I'd see if I could find any info before hand. I'm assuming these are just PVC's but sometimes my heart will beat really slow for about 3-6 beats then all of a sudden go back to normal beats of about 70's/min. When it is slow I feel alittle short of breath and a flutter feeling in my stomach (like a free fall on a roller coaster). I've noticed it does it on days I get up really early, sometimes w/ physical exercise or when I'm nervous. Recently I felt of my carotid artery while it was beating slow and between the beats my heart does something...like a beat but not strong at all but the beat never makes to the artery.  I'm 35 w/ no prior heart problems although my grandfather, father, and mother have all had heart attacks.
Any info would be appreciated :)

Probably ectopic (extra) beats, either PACs (coming from the atria, or upper chambers) or PVCs (coming from the ventricles, or lower chambers). Not much to worry about. To verify the diagnosis, your doctor can set you up for a Holter monitor which will record your heart rhythm for 2-48 hours. The reason the pulse isn't as strong during those extra beats is because the heart contraction isn't as coordinated during those beats, so they don't propagate as strongly. As long as you aren't feeling lightheaded or dizzy, though, they are probably strong enough to get blood where it needs to go.
