Heart rate pauses with eating, post lap band

Heart rate pauses with eating, post lap band

I hope I can get some opinions about this from medical experts.  I am 48 years old.  I had a lap band done about 2 years ago.  I initially lost about 30 pounds and have gained back 5 pounds.  It took forever for my band to get tight enough for me to even recognize something was different and that is when the problems started.  When eating it would feel like something was getting caught.  Along with this feeling, I would have anything from feeling woozy to going unconscious and on a couple occasions had seizure like activity.
I have sustained a closed head injury because of this when I feel out of my chair head first onto a concrete floor.  At that time I went to the E.R. and they said it was syncope.  I was advised to chew better.
Nothing changed.  Finally several weeks ago I had another one of these episodes at work.  Shortly after regaining my composure I began have a cramping, severe chest pain that radiated from my left chest to left arm to neck to jaw and between my shoulder blades.   I immediately told a workmate that I thought I might be having a heart attack.
I was sent to the E.R. (I am a nurse in the hospital) and subsequently admitted to the telemetry floor.   I reported my symptoms and that they accompanied eating (except for a few times when I have gotten mildly woozy with cough)   They didn't believe me at first.   I finally convinced them to give me some food.   Half way through the meal I had a VERY mild "attack".  I called the desk and had barely hung up the phone when the nurse came in to see if I was alright.   The pause on telemetry was 10 seconds.
So, now we are going to have to take the lap band out.  My concern is, is there something more going on?

I am sorry to hear about all of the problems that you have been having since your banding procedure. It sounds as if you may be having neurally mediated syncope that is related to the gastric banding procedure. There have been reports in the medical literature of patients with gastric banding and other medical problems with the esophagus having similar problems as you. I am hope that taking out the gastric band will fix the problems that you have been having.
