Heart

I am 36 years old and have had heart problems since my 14 yrs old was born. The problem I have is that my heart will miss a beat and I would have to cough so I could breathe again.  When this happens I feel like the blood is rushing to my head from my chest up and I feel real faint and then I get real tired. I have went to the doctor about it and he says that I have mvp and that I will just have to live with it.  But here latly it just seems to be getting worse.  I feel dizzy and lighthead and real tired.  I'm really scared.  What do you think I should do?  And has anyone ever died from having mvp?

Anita,

thge first thing you need to figure out is what your heart is doing when you have these episodes. While your sensation is that your heart stops, it actually is unlikely. More likely is you are having an extra heart beat or pause leading to your symptoms.

An event monitor or holter monitor will help discern.

mvp is difficult to define without more details. Isolated mvp is usually associated with relatively nonspecific symptoms and the course is usually quite benign.  Complications associated with mvp can be serious but are more dependent on progression of disease. It is really important to try to live a normal lifestyle, and keep followup every couple of years with a cardiologist to watch for disease progression.

Looking for feed back.  It is difficult if not impossible to be able to "Post a Question" sooo any feedback is appreciated.  I am 42 have MVP and benign pvc's.  Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a connection with pvc's and hormones.  And if low pulse rate-sometimes as low as 39 beats affects pvc's.  I have no symptoms (dizzy, fainting) when my pulse is low so the doctor says it is okay.  I take 25mg of Toprol XL.  My doctor thinks more would help pvc's but says I cannot take more with a low heart rate.  I walk 4 miles a day and feel fine-just nervous about pvc's!  Thanks for any replys!
