Heparine and bleeding

Heparine and bleeding

My father has received Heparine i/v  at the hospital( still hospitalised  but hard for my father to get ,and understand info from cardiologist), has history of chest pain, anxiety ,had triple bypass surgery many years ago ( still has trouble with one block artery but too old for surgery)  He ended up with terrible pain to one of his leg and had MRI or scan following that , he was told ( don't know the exact story)  that he has an hematoma 9 cm x 20 cm to his abdomen that he was very lucky that he was still alive and will have to be careful because will take 8 weeks to resorb.I'm trying to understand what they mean by that hematoma  and what  do they mean by careful ( is any limit for activities) , is it possible that there was bleeding someplace else since then he seems forgetful ,agressive and sarcastic ( unusual for him)  His heparin was stopped after he complained pain to his leg,but his Plavix was restarted  a week after. He was also put on Fentanyl patch ( symptoms started before Fentanyl patch ) My father live in a different country , impossible for me to find anything from MD.
Thank you very much for your help

I am not sure why he was on heparin, but there are risks to receiving any medication and with heparin the risks often include bleeding. What are the benefits? Well it depends on the circumstances leading to its use; in you father's case I suspect it was myocardial ischemia since he is on plavix. And the bleeding may have occurred as a result of a left heart catheterization.
Sounds like he has some altered mental status, which may be caused by the heart problem itself, bleeding in the brain, electrolyte abnormality  or a stroke or even disturbance in sleep awake cycles often seen in hospitals, It is hard for me to say which is the cause of his mental status change without actually reviewing his case.
