Hiccups after surgery

My brother in law had Bypass surgey recently. Three days afterwards hiccups started and lasted for  two days. Will they return and did the surgery cause the hiccups

  Thanks

Dear Amanda
If the hiccups went away they most likely will not return. Sometimes surgery causes inflammation around the diaphragm - this can lead to a prolonged episode of hiccups. This inflammation resolves over a few days.
