Also try taking the meds 1-2 hours before the coffee. Should blunt the spike but may not eliminate it entirely.

Yes, it does cause a temporary spike.  My BP is normally 115/65 but after 1-2 cups will elevate to 140's/70's  Not a big spike but a noticeable increase.  I get a bigger spike being in the Dr. office due to adrenaline surge!!  I'm a coffee addict and haven't not been able to quit entirely but do drink much more decaf.  The jury is still out as to whether coffee is bad for the cardiovascular system or not.  It does contain antioxidents which are beneficial, alhtough some experts say it contribute to endothelial dysfunction.  I personally feel a little better with some caffeine.  Just monitor your BP at home and make adjustments as needed.  Caffeine has a half life of about 5 hours so the BP will drop at that point. In a recent study, it stated that coffee has been shown to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease by 25%, so the antioxidents must be helping people

Tea does not trigger a blood pressure spike, for most people.  Tea has compounds in it that counteract what caffeine does to blood pressure, so the net effect is a wash.  If you like tea, and you have high blood pressure, you're probably better off drinking tea than coffee.

yes, my BP is very sensitive to caffeine, trying to stick to one cup of weak coffee a day, and then decaf. I love coffee, so hard to give up.

My bp runs about 130/75, but I can make it jump up to about 190/90 at will, just by drinking two cups of caffeinated coffee.
