High Triglycerides

High Triglycerides

Found out that I have high triglycerides. I have been taking 2 baby aspirins for 15 years. What meds would be safe and not cause a bleeding problem ?

Any fenofibrate is safe to use. One name is Tricor and it does a good job lowering serum TGL's. You can also impact your TGL's by cutting out all empty carbs like breads, pastas, sugar and alcohol as it metabolizes as sugars. I would try that first unless your numbers a very high, in excess of 400.

Good luck,

Jon

I have a daughter that will be moving to Scotland later this year and she said that a certain type of fish oil is good at lowering triglycerides. She just couldn't remember the name. Do you have any idea what she is refering  to ? I'm not enthused about putting more medicines in my body. Thanks for your first answer, you seem to know what you are writing about.

Fish oils contains both docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) which are proven in many studies to lower trigs. They slow down the build of artery plaques, reduce the risk of stroke and many other health issues. I think it would be wiser to buy capsules because some fish (thanks to environment poisoning) can contain methylmercury and other chemicals. The label on the packaging will state what forms of omega 3 supplements are contained in the capsules.
Erijon has far more knowledge on this and I don't wish to tread on his toes here, and I'm sure he will have plenty to add.

My triglycerides were in 200+ range and now down to 60. Two things that made the biggest difference are :

1) Nialor (Instant release Niacin) - 3*500mg - You could use any other brand.
2) Oats + 10 almonds + 1 walnut for breakfast - 5 days a week.

Our family genes cause our trigs to be in the 2000s. My brother and I take both a statin for our high cholestorol and Tricor for the high trigs.  Our blood is so thick with fat we have no choice but to take these meds. On the meds are levels are almost perfect. Without we are doomed. Try doing a search on familial hypercholesterolemia or familial hypertriglyceridemia for more information.

Take care, Ally

And I posted it correct. It is in the 2 (two) thousands (2000). Ally

Thanks guys for all of your answers on high triglycerides......some of the capsules are so large they look like they could choke a horse.....I've decided to try some type of fish oil product. My doc said I have to give up my favorite foods......chicken-fried steak with cream gravy. And again thanks for your answers, very much appreciated.
