High blood pressure, at young age

by itsLive, Jan 29, 2008 09:31PM
I am 16 years old. I recently posted about my racing/strong heartbeat, but got no response. Today i checked my blood pressure and its going up and down, the lowest rating i got was 137/87, while the highest was 146/92.

I have absolutely no idea why this is happening. No past family history of high blood pressure/heart disease. My heart is also beating rapidly between 85-95 bpm, and any slightly strenuous activity such as a brisk walk from school raises it immensely to around 110-120. I DO NOT feel light headed, tired, or anything really. I feel fine, no shortness of breath, nothing. Just an extremely loud, strong pumping heart, elevated heart rate and very high blood pressure (although I read that up until past 150/100 nothing too overly serious will occur). I am not overweight at all (5' 8" and 145 pounds), rather slim actually, and have never had a problem like this before.

What are some possible causes?

You need to see a doctor.  Your BP is to high for a 16 year old.  He/she will get to the bottom of it.

High BP can have many causes.  Eating to much salt, stress, anxiety, but lots of times no cause is found.  Lots of people have anxiety and stress and their BP stays in the basement.  Everybody is different.  That is why you need to see a doctor to see what is going on with you and these BP numbers.

Hello, Im 19 and my blood pressure tends to go up and down alot to. I also have no past history of heart problems. I went to tons of doctors because of how i felt and how my bp was higher than it should be for my age. I was put on beta blockers in the ER when i was having what i guess was a panic attack now cause im not dead nor did they ever find anything wrong with me. finaly i went to a cardiologist just not to long ago and he told me that he didnt think i needed medication, My heart looked normal and my bloodflow was good. I just have high blood pressure and he said bluntly that it can be caused by a rough life or lifestyle, diet anxiety things like that. I dont know if what i had was panic attacks but i had no history. Stress can cause you body to flip out in all sort of ways. Even so you should see a doc just to make sure your all good. And if all comes back clear......just take it easy and try to relax. PS i forgot to add my heart rate speeds sometimes to for no reason at all. Sometimes if i roll over in bed or get up real fast it will speed up.  Anyway i hope this helps you out some. If you do find things in your life really stressful or bothersome just sit back and try to relax a bit.
