High diastolic pressure

I'm male, age 52, 15 lb overweight and, until the last few months, have not had high blood pressure.  My father (age 72) has had it and been medicated for years.  His blood pressure (under medication) runs in the range of 140-160/75-95.  Mine runs 120-145/95-105.  Is there particular significance to my diastoloic being so high?  Today, for example, it is 145/105.

Dear Terry
Actually both your systolic and diastolic blood pressures are elevated. All this means is that you too have high blood pressure. Weight loss and sodium restriction would be a good idea. You will likely need medications at some point. Elevation in either systolic or diastolic blood pressure (or both) needs treatment.
I hope this has been useful. I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to write back.
