How bad is alcohol

by reddog, Nov 07, 2003 12:00AM
I had a 2X CABG back in April and also have CHF. I gave up smoking but still drink up to 4 mixed drinks a day. My fiancee is having a fit but its hard to give up. Am I really shortening my remaining days as she says?

Larry,

In short, probably.

If you are drinking 4 or more ounces of alcohol per day, this is excessive, and may lead to health-related complications.  The potential adverse affects from alcohol are numerous, but include heart failure, liver disease, bleeding complications, and psychosocial disorders.

Backing down to no more than 2 ounces per day, on average, would be better for your health.  Also, once someone tells you that she is worried about your health, it should be a wake-up call that you might have a drinking problem.

Good luck.
