How long can a coma last after open heart surgery?

My mother-in-law 71 yrs old had open heart/bypass surgery 2 weeks ago tomorrow, after surgery had blood clot in leg and had surgery on her leg, they had to leave her chest open for a few days because of bleeding, then closed her up, it has been 2 weeks and is not really responding to us they think she had a stroke but not sure they are now going to put a treach in her throat  so they can get the tube out of her mouth, then in a couple of days transport her to another hospital for an MRI to check to see if she had a stroke...possibly a bad stroke...what are her chances of waking up/surviving?

HI, :)
How is your grandpa doing? I hope he is well now.
I had a friend who went through a heart surgery. He was in coma for 3 months and when he woke up he kind of lost his memory. He has been recovering slowly since then. It has been almost a year now. Anyways, I am also curious.. how long can a coma last for after a heart surgery and what the effects of it are. We need an answer please.. :)

I myself would love to know what happened. my grandpa 77, had the exact same problem (complication), he has been unresponsive for 16 days today. they have already put in the treach 2 days ago and also a feeding plug in his stomach. but the docs are not giving us any answers, they say they are not sure whats wrong, all tests including EEG, EKG have come back normal. he has movements of all body parts but they are saying they are involuntary. we need some answers.. please

I'd love to hear an answer as I've got a similar situation and am trying to educate myself.  I'll keep checking.
