How much is really known?

I have been reading many stories, including on here, and they all say that they know people who have actually died from MVP itself.  I have this condition and I have never really worried much about it because I have always been told not too.  It seems as if the medical community is in tug-of-war over weather or not this is a serious condition.  I was just wondering,

1. Is the information we have about MVP now accurate?
2.  Does MVP actually increase the risk of sudden death or must other problems be present (such as bacterial infection related to MVP, but not MVP itself)?
3.  Is it actually proven that MVP is nothing to worry about, or do we not know enough about it?

I don't think there is a tug-of-war going on.  The jury is in and MVP by itself is a benign condition and not associated with bacterial endocarditis or sudden death.
