How serious?

by synjyn, Mar 11, 2004 12:00AM
My husband has bradycardia and was told a pacemaker would not help because it is starvation induced. He passes out when he stands up because his pressure drops so low. They said a pacemaker would not help because by the time the pacemaker would kick in hubby would already be passed out.  He had a gastric bypass about 3 years ago and his symptoms started after he started falling asleep at his desk at work. One day he had chest pains and went to ER where he was put in ICU for observation but nothing was determined. Many tests have been done, but cardio says he needs the bypass undone.  He cant seem to stop losing weight. He was 350 now is 173. He hasn't worked in 2yrs. and I don't know what to do now. Any suggestions? He passes out at least 1 or 2x a day and has a bad back and spends about 18 hours a day in bed. What next? He is 53 with otherwise good health.

Synjyn,

Thanks for the post.

This is a difficult and complicated situation that needs more than cursory guidance.

Find a doctor you trust and form a therapeutic alliance -- a cooperative agreement between you and the doctor.  It sounds like your husband is heading in a terribly wrong direction.  If you can't get help locally, seek attention at a major center.

Best of luck.

Thank you for your quick response.  If something is not done soon I am afraid hubby might go to sleep and not wake up. His heart rate gets so low it might just stop altogether.
Thank-you
