Husband recently stented

My 54 year old "healthy" husband received a stent yesterday due to a 99% LAD blockage! He is the typical type A personality and this only adds to his already stress overload.  I realize we are lucky he is still here and thankful for medical technology.  I am just concerned that this will forever be a constant worry for him. Any suggestions of how I can help him.  Also I asked his MD about having nitroglycerin to have on hand and he said that this wasn't necessary??? Should I insist that we have some available?

Hi..I just read your post and think you should insist on having some nitro available.  I am 36 and just had a drug eluding stent a month ago (May 7th, 09) in my widow maker artery due to a 99% blockage as well as a 95% two inches below it.  My doc stented them both at once to prevent me from having to go thru bypass surgery of which I am very thankful!  I have been having chest pains tonight, and I took my nitroglycerin earlier.  It seems to have helped somewhat, but I'll definitely be calling my cardiologist tomorrow as I am greatly concerned at this point.  I have taken it on three occasions in a month.  He also put me on the daily capsule that I take in the morning and at night, every day...and that has helped some also.  I am also Type A personality and worry a lot as well.
