Hypercholesterolemia

Posted By Kristine on May 16, 1998 at 20:25:21:

My Husband is 38 yrs. old and has Familial Hpercholesterolemia for which he takes Gemfibrozil.
He has also been a Type II Diabetic for about seven yrs. A couple of years ago, I read about
recombinant virus gene therapy protocols for the treatment of Familial Hpercholesterolemia
underway at the University of Michigan by Dr. James Wilson. He switched to the University of
Penn. and continued this research. The last report stated that the results had been so promising
that he had received approval to expand the study to the next phase. I can't find any journal
info. on the latest results. How do I find out the info. and how does one become involved as a
patient in research studies ? Also, should my husband have a baseline exercise stress test even
though he has no symtoms (symptoms) of heart trouble yet ?
