Hypertension, Enlarged Heart, Missed Beats

Hi

I'm male, 39 years old and obese(21 stones)
I am 6'1" and probably less obese then the average 21 stone man. I have been obese for 8 years.

I have been prehypertensive since I was 19 (maybe earlier) with a lifelong BP of 140/90

Recently my BP has crept up to 165/105 and after routine investigations for palpitations and missed heartbeats a PA X-ray show my heart was enlarged. The information about the enlargement is limited and I have requested a cardio/thoracic ratio.

My ECG was normal, but my resting HR is 80. I have no signs of oedema or heart failure.

My GP told me that this was caused by my weight and lifelong raised BP.

I have just started antihypertensives (Ramipril 5mg od)and panicked by this new condition I have bought a treadmill and have started exercizing at a HR of 130BPM on an inclined walk, for 30 mins per day, 5 days each week. I tolerate the exercize well, and can withstand fairly brisk exercize without dizziness or feeling ill. I'm actually finding the excercize quite enjoyable.

I am also on a diet, and am now VERY determined to loose weight.

My question is how likely is it I can reverse this condition if I continue to loose weight, exercize, and also get my BP under control (down to 130/80 at the moment)?

Many thanks ... Shaun
