Hypertension/Pulse Pressure

Hi.I am a 35 yr old mom of two boys. I have always been in good shape and maintained a healthy weight. Since the birth of my now two yr old, I have put on about 15 pounds. Recently, I have noticed that I get fatigued more easily when I carry laundry or my son up and down stairs. If I sit down for a minute, the feeling passes. Deciding that I needed to get in better shape, I joined some fitness classes at my local gym. WHen fitness trainer measured my blood pressure it read 137/89. He recommended that I track it over serveral days. My readings over a 2 wk span averaged  139.5/82. The highest systolic measurement was 148. Highest diastolic was 89. I am a nonsmoker; the only other health issue I have is chronic heartburn (a hyperacidity problem diagnosed when I was 19 yrs old.) I take Zantac 150 milligrams once or twice a day as needed. Is my BP average high enough to see a doctor? If so, what tests might be recommended. I also noticed that my pulse pressure falls between 50-60 (with a few readings at 60). Until I finish school in July, I can't afford halth insurance and can really only afford a reg family doc visit. Should I go now, or am I worrying too much?

Yes it is mildly elevated and you may benefit from treatment. This would initially consist of dietary changes, modest amount of aerobic exercise and weight loss. If these fail then a blood pressure medications an help in decreasing your long term risk of developing heart failure, heart attacks or strokes.
