Hypertension and Alcohol

by Rayray67205, May 20, 2009 10:25PM
I'm a 20 year old Male and I am currerntly taking Lotrel 5/20mg, Bystolic 10mg, and HCTZ(hydrocholorthiazide) 25mg.  My Question is why is it everytime I drink alcohol, even a few sips, I immeditally start having heart burn and my legs feel numb.  I have been on these blood pressure pills for about 5 months and it isn't till recently that alcohol has started to affect me in this way.  I don't drink that often but when I do these feelings of numbness and heart burn make me not want to.  My blood pressure is pretty low and I do feel my Cardiologist has over medicated me, but I can't make an appointment with my new cardiologist until July.  Anyone have any suggestions or might know what this is?

a suggestion: you can get hold of a blood pressure monitor, then drink some alcohol and test your BP when you develop the symptoms that you describe. That would tell if the relaxing effects on your blood vessels from the alcohol is making your BP go too low, on top of all your meds. Probully some people react more than usual.
