Hypertension medication combination

Hypertension medication combination

My husband is 57 and has sleep apnea, pre-diabetes, hypothyroidism and hypertension.  He takes Norvasc, a diuretic, Atenolol, and Synthroid.  He is having a lot of side affects like, short term memory loss that he denies, he is losing his hair, weight gain (he is very active man) and seems emotionally unstable.  Are these due to the medications?  I am concerned that the calcium blocker beta blocker combination is dangerous.  Can he get full blown diabetes from the atenolol?  He won't let me come to the doctor with him so I am in the dark with this.  He doctor is young - aboiut 33 yrs and I am concerned he isn't experienced enough.  I don't understand why he is in such denial.  I asked his doctor if he is in any danger of dying and he assured me he wasn't.  Could you tell me if this combination of meds are common?  thank you.

If you go on Google and type in their search box the name of the meds for example "Atenolol side effects" you will get tons of links where you can read about the side effects.  Or you can call or see your local pharmacist and he/she will tell you.  Pharmacists know more about side effects than some doctors do.

If a combination of meds is dangerous the pharmacy usually alerts the doctors and asks the doctors to prescribe another med.

Of course some people can take certain meds without ever having any side effects and some cannot.  Go on Google or ask your pharmacist about the side effects and see if your husband has any of the side effects listed.  If he does then his doctor can switch him to another med/combination.

How long has your husband been on these meds?  Sometimes the side effects are short term, but not always.

He has been on this combination since summer.  I have noticed a change in is personality that isn't good.  I have checked the websites you mention and Atenolol is not nice.  I think the doctor is more interested in having a success story than his in my husband's well being.  I did ask our pharmacist about this and she said it was ok to take.  Although it apparently masks pre-diabetes glucose readings.  I sound paranoid I know but I really am seeing some bad side affects.
