Hypertensive Encephalopathy

I was recently diagnosed with this condition.  I haven't been able to find very much data on this, i.e. prognosis, treatment, effect, etc.
Can anybody give me some sound insight?

Ms. Kay,

Hypertensive Encephalopathy means hypertension (high blood pressure) that is so severe that it adversely affects function of the brain.  It is a severe condition that often leads to disabling consequences if the blood pressure is not properly managed.

The treatment is relatively straightforward -- treat the blood pressure.  This can be done with oral medicines.  The diagnosis of hypertensive encephalopathy is considered by many to be a diagnosis of non-compliance, meaning most (not all) patients who receive the diagnosis have not been properly taking their medications.

Good luck.
