How and what types of drugs can damage the heart?
Post AWMI my EF is still in the 30-32 range(after 3 years). Will the condition require CRTD (cardiac resynchronization therapy Defbrillator). If the condition is left open just to medications will it lead to sudden cardiac death?
Hypokinesis is a condition that impairs heart wall movement. Usually the impairment is due to heart cells not receiving a sufficient blood supply. The result, if moderate to severe, may reduce the heart's ability to adequately pump efectively causing the heart's left ventricle to enlarge to compensate, and if the underlying cause is not properly treated the enlarged heart will further reduce the heart's ability to pump and eventually the cardiac output is reduced causing symptoms of heart failure (EF below 30%...represents the percent of blood pumped with each heartbeat).
I had hypokinesis and the restoration of good blood flow to the deficit area revitalized the heart cells that were not necroic (dead), and my heart's left ventricle returned to normal size and the percent of blood pumped with each heartbeat is 59% and within the normal range (enlarged heart was classified as dilated).
There can be other causes that can cause hypokinesis such as low oxygen level within the blood that can be related to anemia, resperatory disorder, etc. Also, the heart muscle can be damaged due virus, bacteria, drugs, alcohol, medication, etc.
If you know the underlying cause we can guide you to what might be the appropriate trreatment and with that information you can better discuss the options available with your doctor.
