I Dont Know what to do

by Doz__0, Nov 06, 1998 12:00AM

  Hello,
I have just come back from my Doctor yesterday who gave me the results of a week ago from my ECG and Chest Xray.
The Doctor called me in aand said my Heart size is normal according to the Xray, but according to the ECG Voltage (Or something similar) I have suspected LVH.
Im male and 23, but I am worrying myself to death, as I cannot go into extra tests till the Hospital calls me in, so I dont even know what to do.
People have told me not to worry, but i am sacred of dying, because I dont know how this is normallt treated (If it can Be).
Why did the Doctor not make me URGENT re-check ups. Should I insist on further tests immediataly, or can it wait a few weeks.
I have had pains every so often of mini clicks and also tightness  for a long while now. Does this sound like I do have this.
  Please help me feel better.
  Thank you
  Doz

Dear Doz,
An ecg is an electrical map of your heart, and hence any increased voltage (height) of the tracing CAN POSSIBLY
indicate LVH(left ventricular hypertrophy.)  In young and thin patients (especially males) there can be increased voltage without LVH (assessed by echocardiography).
Regardless LVH needs interrogation (starting with an echocardiogram) but it is not an emergency.  I am not sure about your chest pains however and it would be best if you
have them to at least go to the emergency room to have an ecg while you are having pain.  If your doctor already knows about these pains then he may want you to just talk with him first.
Good Luck and write back if you have any further questions.
