I can see my heart beat on my stomach...?

Hi, in the last 4 months I have noticed something weird going on. Most of the day I don't wear a shirt on my body because it's too hot.

Anyway what my problems is I can see my heart beat on my stomach. My stomach moves to the beats of my heart. What I mean is it moves in and out and just my looking at it I can see when my heart beats, and when it stops. I just have to place my hand on my stomach and I can heart my heart perfectly. Is this normal? Do I have some kind of illness that I don't know about? I haven't seeked any medical help because I am worried of getting laughed at if it's indeed common.

Dear Madcat2k,

What you are describing may be a normal finding. A very remote possibility is that occassionally people may have dilation of the major artery leaving the heart(aorta), which may present with similar findings. If you are very concerned about this I would recommend seeing your family doctor for an examination.

Er...I think this is pretty normal, there's a nice big fat artery heading down in that direction I believe, mine does it too

I believe this is very common.  I too can see my stomach moving up and down with my heartbeat.  Are you a very thin person?  If you have a thin frame, then you would be more likely to see your stomoach moving up and down.  I would say this is nothing for your to worry about.

5'3", 135lb male. It just freaked me out when I saw it and felt it I thought I was gonna explode or something. Never used to get that before :)

What about a correlation between the heart and stomach ? I have alot more pvc's when I eat, And I don't use caffeine and other stimulants ever.
Thoughts ?

There was a Guy posting under the name of Mr Stomach on this forum a while ago about the PVC/Gastric connection. He had obviously done a lot of research and what he had to say made a lot of sense. I too suffer with PVC's worsened by overeating or stomach Gas. See if you can find any of his posts in the archive.

I am male, 40 yrs. old, 190 lbs. and 6' 3".  I excercise and am in good shape.  99% of my pvc's are followed by burps.  It sounds crazy but that is the truth.  If I get gas that I have a hard time getting up, my pvc's are numerous.  I can be laying down and get a lot of pvc's and then I can sit up and burp and then lay back down again and the pvc's go away.  In June I overate a very large meal and ended up with extreme gas and acid indegestion.  I went to bed that night and woke up the next morning with multiple pvc's.   Ended up going to the E.R. and wore a holter for 24hrs.  The results were multiple "safe" pvc's.  The Dr. said it was okay.  This went on for about a week and then they slowly went away (took about 3 months).  Have some days where I have a few and others (only when I get gas) that I get multiple pvc's.  I am on verapamil 240 SR and 25mg. lopressor.  The verapamil was given for diagnosed mvp from an ultrasound 15 years ago but the last echo 6 months ago said it was "normal".  Have tachycardia ocasionally at 200bpm. The lopressor was given to me in June to help the pvc's.   Seemed to help. Always feel my pulse and can take my pulse by just looking at a clock.  It usually beats hard.  My stomach pulsates with each beat.   Pulse rate at 60 bpm at rest.  The best control that I have to reduce the pvc's is to eat right and take Rolaids, etc. at the first sign of gas.  Sounds weird but its the truth.  The gas will throw the pulse into a weird beat, but a good old burp and presto! They go away!  HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS???????

You've descibed exactly what happens to me. My PVC's also worsen if I get a stomach bug. I too have been to ER on two occasions with the PVC's and once the gas problem subsided so did the PVC's. There has to be a connection. As Im said previously, there have been numerous posts on this subject, too many for it to be a coincidence. Anyone know of any research been done in this area?

I get these too. I wake up with terrible stomach gas and rapid heart beat. I have to drink  water, take gas tables and burp until the gas is gone. Once its gone my heart reat returns to normal. Doctor thinks it panix and I am on paxil and xanax which helps but still get it some.

Interesting. If I eat a large meal (maybe a little too much,) I will experience increased PVCs.

I can see my wrist pulse move, which I guess is no big deal, but lately I can feel my pulse in my fingertips. If I put any pressure at all on my hands I can feel my pulse. I have a strong heartbeat that I am always aware of, so I'm used to that, but I wonder if feeling a pulse in my hands is normal. I am in a very cold climate and think that may have an effect because of possible vein constriction due to the cold weather. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Lost my password at peacjt so I had to re-register at peacjt@, but anyway, I can feel my pulse over anyplace on my body that has arteries where I can check my pulse.  As I sit here at the computer I can feel it in my chest, arms, legs and even in my feet as I have my fingers on the keyboard.  Weird.  My Pvc's are still about the same as usual.  If I don't get gas I usually don't get the pvc's.  A good old fashioned burp helps more than anything.  Seems like I am getting gas more than ever.  Pepcid AC seems to help with additional Rolaids as needed.  Alka Seltzer helps me burp but seems to cause additional gas too.  Has anyone else discoverd anything that helps with these same symptoms????

Wish I could help but I think a burp is as good as anything else. I definitely get more pvc's with a full stomach...one thing I notice is that if I cut down on the carbs, especially at night I have a better chance of cutting back on the skipped beats. Merry Christmas and good luck!

i am 20 years old i have been diagnosed with svt 2 years ago now since then i have been terrifeid of everthing and think in just gona drop off.i am waiting to have an ablation in the begginn of the new year to sort out the problem.i am so glad to hear that i am not the only one with these types of problems. i always every day or now and then have missed heart beats then big bangs in my chest then alot of thuding in my heart that lasts a few seconds and is very scary after i keep expecting it to happen again so i keep worring.i have noticed about the gas that have to burp all the time to prevent the jumps from happening othewise i get lots of jumps.I see a cariologist regularly and had all the various tests you can think of but they put most of it down to worring.I have been taking all different types of medication until i have found ones that suit me(Verapermil 40mg 3 times a day).I find that when i lie flat on my back of bend over to put my shoes on or sleep on the side of my heart my heart my heart jumps alots.
is there anyone esle how feels like this that can give me some advise please as a am so terrified!!!

This is my first post, I am so glad I found this site.  I was formerly a nurse on a cardiac telemetry unit, so I understand a lot of what is going on.  I had my first visit to the ER a few days ago and was surprised to see PVC's on the monitor.  My EKG was normal (I just didn't have any while they got the EKG).  Since then I notice my heart beat all the time, and I have more "extra" beats after eating.  I was very physically active before, up to a few months ago.  I have had my thyroid checked in the last few months (normal), and I cannot tolerate excercise or activity at this point.  Normal resting heart rate is about 60-100.  I have noticed that my resting has increased and is now around 80-90.  Technically this is within normal limits, but it feels fast to me all the time.  I feel it when I have extra beats.  I don't think it's an anxiety attack.  I had some panic attacks a few years ago and took paxil for a few months, and this feels nothing like that.  I know stress and anxiety can make this worse.  It has to do with hormone levels increasing under stress (norepinephrine, corticosteroids, adrenaline, etc).  I have always been very active, I am only 29, and LIVING WITH IT is not a choice I want to sit back and take.
