ICD and driving

I had a defibrillator put in back in Decemeber and I have 7 stents as well.  I was told by someone that I shouldn't be driving and that if I am in an accident due to my defibrillator going off my insurance company wouldn't cover me...does anyone know if either of these are true?  Like to find out now before something might happen.

I was told since I did have episodes of fainting, vtach, my heart stopping; that I wasn't allowed to drive until my doctor cleared me which could be anywhere from 6 wks - 6 months depending on my recovery.

I read somewhere that here in FL they recommend 6 months of a clear interrogation of no incidents before you should drive with an icd implanted.

I haven't read that your insurance won't cover you in the event of an accident though, could you call them and ask just to be safe? If not then ask you doctor they may know.

Im really interested in what you find out because I just had mine implanted and I'm still waiting to be cleared to drive.

I would check with your doctor to be sure. I am on my fifth ICD and I am still driving, If I get symptomatic I do not drive till I feel better. My doctors told me when I could not drive usual after a major cardiac event. In Pa I think you have to wait six months after an sustained event.
I could be wrong so anyone please step in to correct me.
