ICD or no ICD

I have had cardiomyopathy for over 20 years, with an EF of about 30%.  In the last couple years I started showing symptoms as my mitral valve regurge got severe.  I have a mechanical valve put in 3 months ago, and doing extremely well.

The only down side is my EF has stayed in the 20% range that it was in just before the surgery, even though I feel good.  The docs want me to get an ICD, and I am more concerned about this than the valve surgery.  I don't like the idea of a lead going down though my tricuspid valve.  It seems like it would damage the valve evenntually.

I have thought about waiting for the new ICDs that have external leads.  I hate it that the USDA takes so long to get treatment on the market.

What type of ICD do they want to install. There are different kinds for different problems.
