Ideal Cholesterol Levels

I'm a healthy 31 yr old male. Recently got the following levels

total - 185
hdl - 56
ldl - 11
tri - 90

Basically the doctor says I have to lower the ldl below 100 and if its not I have to take a pill! I have no risk factors. I do have Mitral Valve Prolapse, but there is no relation to MVP and clogged arteries. Basically it seems to me that he is pushing the drug companies. Am I wrong or have the standards for ideal cholesterol changed?

What is your LDL #? You posted 11.

Your numbers look off, based on the formula that total cholesterol is calculated by I believe your LDL is 111 (TC=LDL+HDL+[TRIx20%]). The standards that I have read say that your LDL should be under 130, however they do reccommend an LDL ounder 100 if you have any significent risks factors, mostly a strong family history of early onset CAD or if you smoke.

If not, your numbers look great to me.

Personally I would not go on meds with those numbers. I do think many doctors are pushing statins these days. However in another 20 years, they'll probably be back peddling again.

My doctor also says 100 or below, but I haven't gotten there so don't know when he would recommend statins.

You HDL and your total/HDL ratio looks very good.

Is your Dr. a pill pusher?

(Is every surface and item there that can have a drug ad on it do so? And are they for Crestor, Zocor, Baycol, etc).

I believe my ratio to be great as well. My doctor is somoene I have known for a very long time and is the father of my best friend so I dont know why he would steer me in that direction. I have no risk factors. Would very mild mitral valve prolapse be considered a factor?

i am a 21 year old female and had blood work done 2 months ago and they said my cholesterol was perfect now i had it done last week and its high and they wanna put me on meds but i dont know if i wanna do that here are my numbers and i just wanna know some other peoples and if this is really really high or not
