Ileus or small bowel obst following dobutamine stress test

by wwonka, Jul 03, 2009 07:22PM
My 89 year old father had a negative dobutamine stress test. However 4-6 hours after the test he had severe vomiting and abdominal pain requiring admission for ileus or small bowel obstruction. Has never had abdominal surgery nor such bowel problems. Evaluation with CT of abdomen showed only dilated loops of small bowel. No other cause identified.

Prior to admission was walking 2 miles per day and other wise in good health for being 89 years old.

Still hospitalized 48 hours after admission.

Could the dobutamine stress test have been a factor in his abdominal problem?
