Pericarditis is usually a viral infection, but can be caused by certain bacteria and fungi in very rare cases.  Treatments are usually conservative, with pain management, etc.  Occasionally, with large pericardial effusion, one may require a tap.  Recurrence rate is about 30% with overall good prognosis.  Recurrent disease can be treated more aggressively with steroids or colchicine.
