Intense workouts with bicuspid aortic valve.

by Tim1987, Oct 24, 2009 03:13AM
I was diagnosed ruffly 3 years ago with bicuspid aortic valve. Never thought much of untill I decided to join the army as a technician in a certain field, so not infantry. As far as my condition there are no murmers are any signs of stress accept that my heart leaks ruffly 5% of my blood back into my heart. I am 6ft 4in at a weight of between 165-175 pounds, age 21. Now that I' m thinking of working out so I can pass the physical test with the armed forces I've became very concerned and worried I might put to much stress on my heart because the physical test is 14 weeks of intense training and running.

So question: Should I be worried about possibly putting to much strain on my heart that I could cause increase in leakage or stress on my valves, in other words make things worse. I was told there is no need to worry till I hit around 40-50 years of age but reading more into this disease really got me scared and wondering could something happen, and if something bad was coming, will I have any signs to warn me.

Biggest concern is, "Is it better for me to workout and stay fit and should I be worried."
