Interpreting my cholesterol results?

Interpreting my cholesterol results?

My doctor has just told me that my total cholesterol was 3.6, that my HDL was 1.19.....i'm assuming from this that my LDL was 2.41?  He seemed to go a bit quiet and i wondered if it was because the HDL wasn't high enough and he knew that i would worry.  I didn't want to give him the hassle of my anxiety today.

Now i've read somewhere that it's about the ratio of total cholesterol divided by HDL....well that give me 3.6 divided by 1.19 = 3.02.

Am i right?  Is that a better score?  Or is it comparing the HDL with the LDL figure? in which case i don't like it.

Thanks!  :-)

I've just called my surgery to double check the results and the receptionist said there are no HDL or LDL results!  and 'didn't you discuss this with the doctor yesterday?'

No i didn't, cos there is an unspoken rule that you are not supposed to ask questions!

She said 'you don't need those results anyway because your cholesterol is good.'  Right, since when did she qualify with a medical degree?

I'll ask my doctor when i see him.
