Inverted T-Waves?

Inverted T-Waves?

Hi Folks,

I've recently been for a medical for a new job that I'm due to start in September. I passed all the tests with the exception of the ECG which showed a number of inverted t-waves. I'm not sure on which leads but by the way the doc was talking it was seen on the majority of leads. He sounded very concerned and asked me if I was feeling any chest pains, to which I answered no. He asked if I did any exercise and if I got chest pains when doing it, again I answered no.

He was almost at the point of having me rushed to hospital when he decided to phone a specialist. I can only assume that the specialist advised him to check for a heart murmur as when he got off the phone he didn't seem quite as concerned and promptly had a listen to my heart with a stethascope. The outcome of this was that he heard a murmur and has referred me to a cardiologist for further investigation, which I am still awaiting an appointment for.

All this has knocked me for six and has got me very paranoid. I am 30yo and weigh 103Kg so I'm overweight, I also smoke. I have recently bought a heart rate monitor which shows my resting rate between 70-80. I do a fair ammount of hill climbing during which my heart rate rises to a maximum of about 170 without a hint of chest pain.

Is it likely from this info the I have heart disease? Or could there be abnother explanation?

Thanks in advance

Chris

I have heard that lots of people, myself included, have inverted t-waves and it is actually a variation of "normal".  I had a bunch of tests done and got the all clear.  There are lots of things that can cause inverted t-waves, including anxiety and certain medications.  I wouldn't worry just yet.  You're awfully young to have heart disease.  You're cardiologist will take GOOD care of you!!
