Is LVH Regression Possible?

by CecilyAlgernon, Oct 07, 2009 03:27PM
I would like to know if LVH is really reversible and whether or not my breathing difficulty can be associated with LVH.

Here is health profile:

I was diagnosed with LVH when I was 21. I am 24 now and I have been taking medication ever since, but my Blood Pressure rarely dips below 130/80.

The drugs I take include:

Norvasc (Amlodipine) 5mg/day - evenings
Dilatrend (Carvedilol) 12.5mg/day - mornings

My vital signs

Heart Rate - 90 to 100
Respiratory Rate - 16 to 20
Blood Pressure - 130/90 mmHg
Weight - 180 lbs
Height - 5'2"
BMI - 32.9 (Obese)

I experience shortness of breath - specifically a feeling that I can not get enough air in to my lungs or a feeling that there's something stuck in the back of my throat. I feel this even when I'm sitting. Sometimes its relieved  by walking around, other times it stays with me all day. I do not feel weak or anything. No numbness, nothing. I am also free of adventitious breath sounds that indicate I have fluid in my lungs.

I notice the condition when  when I forget to take my meds for 2 or 3 days. Also, I notice it a lot right after I take Carvedilol. Could the shortness of breath be also caused by medication? I also get nasal congestion after taking the drug.

My heart rate is rather fast too, around 90-100. Some instances when I experience shortness of breath I checked my oxygen levels with a pulse oximeter and I never dip below 98%.

I am also obese (180lbs 5'2'), with most of my fat mass on the belly area. Does that contribute to the breathing problem?

I have been scouring the internet in search of articles regarding the regression of LVH. However, those that I
have found have been very vague about it. What is your take on LVH regression with
agressive HPN treatment? What should I expect?

Also, does the shortness of breath I experience mean that my LVH is progressing?

I will go and seek medical help, but I would first like to know what I should expect.

Thank you so much for anyone who would kindly answer my questions. There are a lot of them, I know, I am just worried, I guess.

Looking forward to any answers. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Ceelee
