Is Upper Back Pain Common After Bypass Surgery

My wife, 67, had bypass surgery 10 months ago. Since her surgery, she has greatly suffered with chronic back pain between her shoulders. She had a complete MRI on her spine and no pinched nerve was found. Is it possible that the surgery caused nerve/tendon/muscle damage that would last for 10 months?

I had bypass surgury 4 years ago.  I too have upper back pain, never haveing a back problem in the past. Its not dibilitating, but at times annoying.
I believe it is because the ribs are connected to the sternum and in the back at the spine. When the sternum is cut and the ribs are separated, they pivot at the spine.  Hence the backache after the ribs are placed and tied back together.

A chest xray is awesome, seeing all those ties holding the ribs back in place.

I still have minor back discomfort after 4 years.
