Blood pressure affects the heat in different ways. It can either cause enlarged or hypertrophied left ventricle, and mitral and aortic valves regurgitation. You need to control your blood pressure, since it is starting to affect your heart. This is the beginning, but it can be reversed if it is not too much enlarged.

Hi John.  Your left ventricle is the part of the heart which pumps the oxygenated blood from your lungs back into your body.  It is considered the "work horse" to quote a popular phrase.  I do have a couple of questions for you.  Did the doctor tell you that the HTN, (high BP) is causing the enlargement, or, perhaps diagnose you with pulmonary HTN? And, what meds did he prescribe?

As for the condition being pre-heart disease, I would not consider it so.  If it directly affects the heart function, I would say it is heart disease, and should be monitored very frequently by a good cardiologist.

I hope to hear you are doing better soon.  God bless...

John,

How did they determine you had an enlarged left ventricle? If it from an EKG, that's not a very accurate way to detect that condition. An ECHO is much more accurate. Also, if you resolve the underlying condition the heart can remodel itself and your left ventricle can return to it's normal side.

How was it diagnosed and if it was by echo, what were the measurements and how was your EF%. This will help give you a better answer,

Hope this helps,

Jon

some good points here for you, and I concur with them all. As BrokenPen states, your priority is getting your blood pressure under control. It is not (unfortunately) always the case that the cause for high blood pressure in a patient is found. I had high blood pressure for many years and this greatly contributed to my coronary heart disease.
Can I ask if you have any symptoms? or was it just the fact that they noticed your blood pressure and decided to run tests?
Also, as a matter of interests, you say they are treating your blood pressure with meds, have they put you on a beta blocker to keep your heart from working too hard?
