Is it anxiety or a heart problem??

I'm 19 years old and felt generaly healthy until 2 months ago when I had a what i think was a panic attack . My heart rate went really extreme levels (220 +) and that scared me alot. Since then Im having these problems: feel shortness of breath, sometimes dizzynes , headackes and the last week heart burning some hours a day   etc. I had an EKG  and echo 4 days ago and the doctor told me my heart is fine ( The EKG was just 15 seconds and the echo 1 minute!?!?) . Three days ago I started feeling worse , i have a light pain in the chest and my heart rate is constantly about 50

I am 33 and have had echos and ekg's all my life.  EKG's are supposed to be very quick these days so it is good that came back fine.  I am a little concerned though that your ECHO only lasted a minute.  Was this something a Cardiologist sent you to have done or your PCP?  What you are experiencing may be anxiety.  I also have panic attacks and have some of those symptoms.  The thing about panic attacks is that they can "build up" for days and at the moment you have them you could think your stress level is low.  However when I have an ECHO and over the years and I have had hundreds, they take at least 20 minutes.  Certainly not one.  If it was your PCP that sent you to have it done, I would ask for a referral to a Cardiologist and let him either do it in the office or send you out for one.  Cardiologists tend to be more specific in what they are looking for when they send the script over to the Echo Technician.  If it was a Cardiologist then i would ask for a second opinion elsewhere.  Most insurances will cover a second opinion if referred by the PCP, so that may entail you to go back to him first.  If nothing comes back then you know that your heart is strong and you just have to work on your anxiety level.  It sounds silly but breathing techniques really do work to calm your system, but you have to find the right one for you.  Hope that helps.:)

You seem to be having quite a few symptoms and a diagnosis and recommendations would only be possible in face-to-face consultation.  If you are not comfortable with the recommendations of your current physician, I recommend that you seek a second opinion from a cardiologist at an academic medical center.  If you do seek a second opinion, it is very important that you bring the reports from your previous tests, including lab tests and the images from any cardiac tests (such as echocardiograms) that you have received.
