Is it common to become depressed after having a pacemaker put in?

My Dad received a pacemaker in April.  He appeared to be doing very well.  However, 3 months later, he seems to be very depressed.  I've never seen him so "down" before.  Is it common to become depressed after this surgery?  My Mother is going to mention it at the next visit to the cardiologist.  Thank you for any information.

No, a pacemaker should not cause depression. Perhaps it is his underlying medical condition that is causing his depression. I think mentioning it to his cardiolgist is a good idea. I would not wait until the next visit. I would recommend calling sooner; your cardiologist may be able to arrange some treatment that will make him feel better.
