Is it possible that I have have heart failure or a serious heart disease?

During the last few weeks I've been experiencing heart palpitations and shortness of breath when my heart rate elevates. One example is when i was on my way to take the bus like usual my heart rate started to go up and it suddenly started to beat like double.
Something like this: -- -- -- -- -- --
Instead of this: - - - - - -
The shortness of breath feels like a punch in my chest that takes my breath away. Both of those symptoms occur when my heart rate is elevated.
I felt a whooshing sensation when I put my hand in my chest too.
This is driving me crazy.
I also had a few EKG's and one echocardiogram like 5 months ago.
I'm a very young and very scared.

Hi there,

It is very scary when our heart rates does weird things.  What you describe could be exercise induced atrial fibrillation or just innocent PVC's and PAC's which are just irregular heart beats, but not dangerous.

You should definitely go and see your GP and get some blood tests done.  If you have low levels of potassium or magnesium, you could get these weird rhythms.  Your GP can also then decide of you need to see an Cardiologist.

Take care and let us know how you are doing.
