Is jogging 5-miles-a-day bad for me?

Hello Doctor,

I am a 23 year-old male of slim physique. I wanted to ask that is it bad for health to jog around 5 miles (7-8 kms.) a day? I drink around 17 glasses of water-a-day. In the morning, I drink around 8 glasses of water in a span of around 2 hours and then go to the park for jogging around 3.5 kms, with a small break of around 30 seconds after I have covered half the distance. Then, I again go to park in the evening, after drinking 4 glasses of water, for jogging the same distance. Is it fine for me to do so? Today after doing this routine in the morning, I felt a strain in my head all day long.

It may not be related to the running, as there are many other causes of headaches or strain, such as migraines. The amount of water intake seems to be adequate, unless these activities are performed in extreme conditions. If it is warm and sunny where you live, try to limit this exposure by running on shaded areas. If it is cold, run during the middle of the day when it is warmest. Finally, if these headaches do not resolve with these changes speak to your physician regarding other causes of chronic headaches.

I'm just curious why you drink so much water before you work out?  Doesn't that make you sick or slow you down?
