Redo Mitral Valve Repair
Whether or not to attempt a repeat mitral valve repair versus a mitral valve replacement depends on the cause of the mitral regurgitation. If the mitral regurgitation is due to rheumatic disease or ischemia(lack of blood flow), mitral valve replacement would be the preferred method. Also if the initial repair occurred a few years ago, replacement would probably be the preferred method. If the mitral regurgitation occurred soon after mitral valve repair or was due to myxomatous disease (redundant tissue) then a repeat mitral valve repair may be considered. Some would argue to perform mitral valve replacement in all people with failed mitral valve repairs. To completely answer your question we would need much more medical information from you. If you are considering a repeat mitral valve repair I would seek the opinion of experts in the area, such as are present here at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. I would discuss this with your doctor and ask him/her to consult with doctors here. To learn more about the Cleveland Clinic Foundation you can go to our website (www.ccf.org).

I apologize for asking this here but, when can I post a new thread?
Is there a certain time period during the day where my thread can be posted?
