LEFT VENTRICULAR FAILURE

Dear Sir,

My uncle aged 60 years had under gone Open Heart Surgery 7 years before. Now he has been suffering from gastic formation. He has to be given OVAN injection daily to overcome the problem. Doctor says the Left Ventrical hardly able to pump (only 24 percent). Now one of the doctors in a hospital suggests for an angiogram
surgery whereas few doctors advised not to go for angiogram as the patient would not withstand and chances of high risk if do so. Now please suggest me whether is it advisable to do angiogram and if not what are the alternate methods available to solve the problem.

kindly give me a positve reply as soon as possible

Thanking you.

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the terms "gastric formation" or with "OVAN injections." However, if your uncle has been diagnosed with having systolic dysfunction (EF < 50-55%) there are a number of appropriate diagnostic tests that are utilized to understand the etiology. However, the first thing that should be performed is a thorough history and physical examination by a licensed physician. Having open heart surgery in the past (especially for coronary artery bypass grafting) can certainly put a patient at risk for ischemic heart disease that can lead to a reduced ejection fraction. However, that is only one of many different causes for a cardiomyopathy.  If a coronary angiogram has been suggested, you should speak to the recommending physician regarding any further questions you might have including the risks, benefits, and alternatives.
