LVH and Cardiomegaly

by arries, May 24, 2004 12:00AM
I was exposed to environmental chemicals [Telone II] and shooting range particles.  In 1987 [age 25], I started to come down with mysterious symptoms like hypertension, headaches migraine, itchy rash, dizziness, and soar throats cough. Prior to all this I had only foot problems from a fractured heel this heeled, but I still would get swelling in my ankles, but I’d never mentioned this to the doctor because it never seemed important.  At that time I don't remember if I had any chest pains or not and the hypertension was considered labile and there was no Cardiomegaly. In 1988, I recall having some bad chest pains from when I moved or breathed, so I would just lay there till it passed or I would move slowly and breath slightly in order to help it along thinking that it was just ‘gas.’   In 1991, and EKG showed LVH, but since an echo came back negative it was said that the LVH reading was from my thin chest.  The doctor also told me that I had an athletic heart and that meant a large heart, so I brush it off as being “healthy.”   Sorry can't leave more information hope it makes sence, so here is my questions..........
1. How long would it take for someone to get LVH or Cardiomegaly from untreated hypertension?
2. Can long-term [low exposure] and short-term [high exposure] exposure to pesticides cause hypertension, what about rifle shooting range particles?
3. Can hypertension cause headaches or migraine or does the headache/migraines cause the hypertensions or neither?

arries,

1. The timing is variable, some people develop severe hypertrophy over a short period of time and seem to have a predisposition. Also, some actually have regression of hypertrophy after treatment.

2. I looked through the literature about your compounds. There really isnt much. The other problem is that hypertension is very prevalent, and drawing specific associations in a smaller population that have recieved exposure is effected by the prevalence of the more common disease.

3. Both. High blood pressure can cause headaches by vasomotor changes, while headaches can cause discomfort which can raise blood pressure.

good luck
