Left Bundle Branch Block

by Bodoni, Nov 28, 2000 12:00AM
Male. Aged 57. 5' 11", 178 lbs. Sedentary lifestyle.
LDL - 129. HDL - 48. Triglicerides (triglycerides) - 85.
'White Coat' BP. But normal BP at home - 130/75.

I have a familiy history of heart disease.

I take 30 mgs. BuSpar for anxiety and 40 mgs. Prilosec
for non-ulcerative gastritis, minor hiatus hernia and
spastic esophagus.

Several years ago it was noted on a rountine EKG that
I have a Left Bundle Branch Block. My GP said not to
worry.

A year ago, my new internist ordered a regular
Echo-cardiogram and all results were normal on this test.

I have at times, experienced possible PVC's [ pauses
in my pulse - 2 to 5 per minute. ] I recently wore a
7-lead Holter monitor for 24 hours and no PAC's or PVC's
were recorded. Only a minor 4 second episode of SVT. The
doc said this was ok and again, nothing to worry about.

Last week I had a chest x-ray, EKG, heart-related blood
tests, etc. Again - all normal with the exception of the
L-BBB, of course.

My doctor says that from a medical standpoint, I do not
need any further testing at this time. He said for peace
of mind, I might consider a Thallium Stress Test. Would
you agree? Do you think the Thallium Stress Test is
warranted at this time? Or wait and see if more symptoms
occur. Thanks.

There is no one right answer to your question. However, given your sedentary lifestyle, I would agree and recommend an exercise stress test, just to be thorough.

Dear John, Do not wait until other symptoms occur before you seek futher evaluation! The occurence of your LBBB should continue to be evaluated. I recommend you continue seeking answers until you are satisfied with the explanation.
