Left ankle has chronic swelling and black areas under the ankle bone, now painful
Please direct my post to another topic if this is not the correct one.

I'm 65 yo male and have had chronic swelling in my left ankle for 10 years or so. The last few years, black areas have developed under the ankle on both sides.

I wear 20-30 mm Hg support socks, which help a lot with the swelling.

Now the black area on the inside of my foot is painful, as if there's an infection there.

Need treatment recommendation.

Black is not good in tissue. It could be very bad circulation in that area but that can lead to necrosis - tissue death - which in turn can lead to a serious infection. Please see your doctor ASAP.
