Link between A-fib and enlargement?

I'm 61 with paroxysmal A-fib and recently diagnosed with heart enlargement confirmed by echocardiogram. The echo was called for after a chest x-ray although twelve months earlier I had a negative result from the same test. My A-Fib can be quite aggressive and I wondered whether the enlargement could be caused by the irregular heartbeat?

Yes, chronic atrial fibrillation that is not rate controlled can lead to heart enlargement and failure. If the heart rate is controlled this can be prevented or reversed.
